David Byrne hits out at music streamers
In last Saturday's Guardian, David Byrne - former front man of Talking Heads - argued that music streaming services like Spotify are slowly strangling the music business by putting financial blocks in the way of emerging new performers.
We all know that Spotify pays lamentably low royalties on music played by its streaming service, that a number of bands and other performers have refused to allow whatever recorded music whose rights they control to be listed on Spotify, and that the global reach of the internet is creating global publishing and distribution brands like Amazon, Apple, Google and Spotify whose success is based on creating markets dominated by a 'best seller' ethic. » read all and comment
